Swisscom can continue bundling mobile offerings with DSL broadband connection - customers save CHF 303 per year
The Swiss Competition Commission (Weko) believes that a bundled service offering from Swisscom does not pose a threat to competition. The preliminary investigation initiated in September 2007 in response to complaints from three competitors was suspended without any action being taken. The decision means that Swisscom customers can continue to combine a mobile subscription with a broadband connection without needing a fixed line. By not having a fixed line, several tens of thousands of customers are already saving CHF 303 per year. Swisscom is planning to expand its range of bundled offerings.
In its preliminary investigation, Weko found that the Swisscom offering posed no threat to competition and therefore gave the green light for them to continue marketing the offering. Competitors are of course entitled to launch similar offerings.

Swisscom's DSL plus mobile offering will appeal to customers who have no fixed line or have one but seldom use it and yet still want high-speed Internet access at home. By not having an analogue EconomyLine connection, they will save CHF 25.25 a month, or CHF 303 a year.

As well as cost savings, customers will enjoy other advantages. Firstly, they will receive a single monthly bill for both lines, and secondly, they can make all their phone calls from a mobile phone while benefiting from broadband Internet access at home. The charges for the mobile phone line and the DSL line will be billed according to the customer's chosen subscription.

Customers can choose from a range of mobile subscriptions. The combination of NATEL liberty piccolo (CHF 25) and DSL standard (CHF 49) costs a total of CHF 74 per month. Customers benefit automatically from the attractive NATEL liberty rates and starting from CHF 0.50 an hour for calls to the Swiss fixed network and the Swisscom mobile network.
