"The nicest thing about my job is having daily contact with customers."

Mauro, what attracted you to Swisscom?
I was fascinated by the world of communication and multimedia and decided to complete my traineeship at Swisscom as a retail assistant. I never even considered any other company. I also knew at the time that Swisscom attached a great deal of importance to vocational training.
What is your role at Swisscom?
Clearly, in the sales area my main role is advising customers. I try to understand their needs so that I can offer them the best possible solution. I'm also responsible for supervising the trainees in our shop. We have four trainees at present. I con-duct sales training with them, as well as tests and also con-duct their performance evaluations, which Swisscom refers to as "Triangolos".
What do you particularly enjoy about your work?
Having daily contact with customers means a lot to me. Also the variety of tasks. Every so often we have to get to grips with new products. I also enjoy being able to use my foreign language skills. Having Italian as my mother tongue is naturally a great asset. And I also have a chance to use my knowledge of French.
What do you consider to be the biggest challenge in your job?
In my job as a retail assistant you have to be able to cope with stress. We're under pressure virtually all the time. After all, our task is to provide customers with professional and competent advice and avoid keeping them waiting unnecessarily. For me personally, supervising our trainees is a demanding task given that I'm still young myself. While this makes it easier for me to relate to and understand young people. I also have a management task to perform and must act as role model.
How would you describe the corporate culture at Swisscom?
We have an excellent working atmosphere in our shop. Morale is high and we all get on very well. I think that's something our customers can sense, too.
What do you enjoy most about working for Swisscom?
The fact that we're able to offer our customers first-class service. For example, a two-year guarantee, the right to return a new product within two weeks of purchase, a replacement device free of charge, and much more besides. These are excellent selling points which you won't find elsewhere. I also appreciate Swisscom's commitment to vocational training and to providing trainees with the opportunity to train in a variety of disciplines. I'm perfectly satisfied with the way things are at the moment. I'm always gaining valuable experience, especially in my role as trainee supervisor. Marketing is an area that interests me. I could imagine moving in that direction at some point.
