"There are always fresh challenges in the dynamic environment we work in"

Raymond, how did you come to work for Swisscom?
I was working at Siemens and wanted to do something different. I was in touch with a member of Swisscom's sales staff because Siemens also works for Swisscom. It was she who recommended me. I was lucky and was offered a job which I wanted to do. That was in 2002.
What responsibilities do you have in your role?
As the manager of a team of ten, I'm responsible for ensuring that my staff have the best possible conditions to allow them to do a good job. I allocate tasks, optimise processes, specify the tools we use and also serve as a coach and troubleshooter. I suppose you could say that we are the technical conscience of Sales and act as an interface between Sales and the project teams. We draw up offers, prepare projects and distribute orders internally. It's hard to imagine a more diverse working environment.
What do you particularly enjoy about your work?
Working together in a good team - the team spirit we have. We working in a dynamic environment, recognise trends early on and are highly motivated to bring modern technologies and the things they offer to the marketplace. We can also be very creative and surprise our customers with innovative solutions.
What do you consider to be the biggest challenge in your job?
Because technologies are developing so quickly, the demands are constantly changing. We must know everything possible about the benefits of new technolo-gies, so that we can deploy them in our customer solutions. Convergence in particular is a challenge - bringing data and voice together. There's a great need for coordination in slotting these two disciplines together, but many of the processes aren't yet fully developed. We're pioneers.
How would you describe the corporate culture at Swisscom?
We're bolder and livelier than we were when I first started at Swisscom. The focus is on people rather than processes. This allows us to experience customer proximi-ty. Our mission statement, which calls on us more adventurous and more communicative, isn't just a dull old theory - we actually put it into practice.
What do you enjoy most about working for Swisscom?
Of course, as an engineer, the sector fascinates me. As a Swisscom employee, I value the opportunity to network and to swap information with colleagues, and as a father of three, it suits me that I can organise my work very flexibly. Flexitime is a real bonus to me; it means I can always find time windows for my family, which is very important to me.
What would you like to achieve as your next goal at Swisscom?
The vital thing for me is that our new market offerings are successful. That, of course, also depends on our customers. It's our responsibility to convince them and to make sure that the new technologies bring the benefits they expect.
