Ariane, why did you originally apply for an internship at Swisscom?
Swisscom is a dynamic and diverse national company. That appealed to me. I also wanted to be involved in corporate communication. I applied for an internship in this area and was lucky. I was accepted.

What were your expectations at the beginning of the internship?
I wanted to familiarise myself with corporate communication activities at a company like Swisscom and find out whether this area actually appealed to me. I was also eager to apply the theoretical knowledge that I acquired during my studies. These expectations were fulfilled - I knew almost immediately that I wanted to stay.

What were your most important duties during the internship?
First, I was involved in external communication. In addition to administrative duties, I responded to media enquiries, provided support for a press conference organisation and collected media reports about Swisscom. After about half a year, I moved to internal communication. Here, among other things, I helped with the staff magazine and wrote and published intranet notices. I also organised events for employees. My responsibilities were very diverse.

What were the greatest challenges in your internship activities?
Writing media reports and other texts about technical topics was challenging. It is difficult to describe complex technical relationships in a way that readers can understand. Also, it wasn't always easy to meet the needs of the various clients.

How would you describe the corporate culture at Swisscom?
There is an open and collegial atmosphere. I felt comfortable right away. You can tell that you're taken seriously as an employee. I also think it's easier to work together because we are on a first name basis.

Which strengths did you develop during your internship?
I'm much better at dealing with new situations now and I have realised what I can achieve.

What was your greatest success as an intern?
After completing the internship, I received an offer for a permanent job. Apart from the many small successes in my day-to-day work, this was certainly the most important achievement. Of course I said yes.
