On 15 December 2010 Swisscom presented the fourth Swisscom Innovation Award in conjunction with ICTnet for the best university dissertation in the area of ICT.

This year's Innovation Award, worth CHF 10,000, went to Schekeb Fateh, Christoph Studer and Dominik Seethaler graduates of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), for their dissertation "VLSI Implementation of Soft-Input Soft-Output MMSE Parallel Interference Cancellation".

This year's winning project deals with the implementation of a MIMO SISO decoder chip that has so far only been known in theory. It results in a new and cost-effective WLAN chip on the basis of the IEEE 802.11n standard that achieves very high bandwidths.

Second place was awarded to Tomas Carnecky and Thomas Hospenthal from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts for their dissertation "Concept for an intelligent traffic guidance system (MyWAY)". In third place were Michael Jakob and Andreas Kobler, graduates of the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences, with their dissertation "Project OIC 09 Alpha, Mulitimedia Contacenter on the basis of OCS".

Swisscom would like to congratulate all the winners on their success.
