1. Swisscom in brief?
Swisscom is Switzerland's leading telecoms provider, with around 6 million mobile customers, 608,000 Swisscom TV customers and 1.6 million broadband connections (retail). In 2011 the company's 20,061-strong workforce (FTEs) generated revenue of CHF 11.467 billion. Some 866 young people completed an apprenticeship at Swisscom in IT, telematics, mediamatics, retail sales, commerce and customer dialogue.

2. Where are the company's origins?
The history of Swisscom began with the founding of the public telegram service in 1852 as part of Swiss Post. . Telephony then evolved to become a longstanding pillar of the PTT.  In 1997 the telecoms division was transformed into a public limited company operating under the name Swisscom. In 2008 Swisscom adopted a new logo and set up a new customer-focused corporate structure.

3. In which markets does Swisscom operate?
The company's special situation, with the Swiss Confederation as the majority shareholder, limits its options to engage in international operations. As a  result, our business activities are focused primarily on the Swiss home market. Swisscom can still operate in foreign markets, as illustrated by the acquisition of the Italian telecoms provider Fastweb in May 2007.

4. What shares does Swisscom command in the Swiss telecoms market?
Swisscom commands a 62% share of the mobile market, which is high by international standards (Sunrise 21%, Orange 17%). Swisscom also leads the broadband market, with a 55% share. The remaining shares are distributed among cable network operators (29%) and other L providers (16%). (GB 2011)

6. How is Swisscom structured?
The 2008 reorganisation resulted in a clear focus on four operating segments: Swisscom Switzerland, Swisscom IT Services, Swisscom Participations and Fastweb. Swisscom Switzerland is broken down into the "Residential Customers", "Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises", "Corporate Business", "Wholesale" and "Networks" divisions. The Group  Executive Board is made up of the CEO of Swisscom Ltd, the heads of the Group divisions, the CEO of Swisscom IT Services Ltd and the heads of the divisions of Swisscom (Switzerland) Ltd.
