Covering an area of 172 km2, the Swiss National Park is the country's largest conservation area and only national park.

The national park pursues three goals:

  • Nature conservation: No animals are hunted in the national park, no trees are felled, no meadows are mowed. Conditions here are the same as those which existed everywhere prior to the arrival of man 5,000 years ago.
  • Information: Along with nature preservation and research, national parks are becoming increasingly important as educational facilities. The information provided by the national park helps improve visitors' understanding of nature.
  • Research: Scientific research makes it possible to document changes within the national park. Long-term research which enables an understanding of natural processes is of particular significance and interesting questions abound.

Swisscom supports the national park by providing technical solutions such as an SMS service and the interactive Webpark walking guide and is one of the main sponsors of the new national park centre in Zernez.
