New PWLAN designations

With immediate effect two new PWLAN access points will be available at Swisscom hotspot locations. The present designations:

  • MOBILE and
  • MOBILE-EAPSIM

will be joined by two new ones:

  • Swisscom and
  • Swisscom_Auto_Login


At locations offering free PWLAN the <<Free_ Swisscom_Auto_Login >> option will now be available.

 

During the transitional phase until the end of 2014 all options will be available. As of 2015 only the new PWLAN designations will be used.

The PWLAN designations on your smartphone

Swisscom customers with a NATEL® subscription and a smartphone with EAPSIM support
   Your device automatically selects the correct SSID
(now MOBILE-EAPSIM, later Swisscom_Auto_Login).
Swisscom customers with a NATEL® subscription and a smartphone and no EAPSIM support
   Use the "Swisscom EasyLogin" app to allow your device to automatically
select PWLAN.

   You can select either "MOBILE" or "Swisscom" as long as "MOBILE" is still displayed.

More security for you

Along with the new PWLAN designations a new encryption system is being introduced for the PWLAN access points. The latest generation WPA2 technology offers you maximum data security when surfing at Swisscom hotspots.

Automatic connection to Swisscom hotspots using an iPhone

 

You can easily check and alter the settings for the automatic connection of iPhones to Swisscom public WLAN hotspots with just a few clicks.

Your iPhone must be within range of a Swisscom hotspot.

  1. Choose “WLAN” under “Settings”.
  2. Ensure that WLAN is switched on.
  3. The list of available WLANs will appear under “Select network”.
    Search for “MOBILE-EAPSIM” and tap on the blue arrow button to the right.
  4. Check the position of the “Autom. connect” switch:
    Activated (on): The iPhone automatically connects to the fast WLAN network as soon as a Swisscom hotspot is in range. The data volume used is settled in the same way as data traffic on the mobile phone network.
    Depending on the mobile subscription, costs may thus be incurred. You benefit from secure WEP encryption.
    Deactivated (off): The iPhone does not connect automatically. You can connect manually to another available WLAN network.
  5. Repeat the abovementioned steps from 3 provided that the WLAN network named “Swisscom_Auto_Login” is available.
