HD Voice - closer than ever before

HD Voice (high definition voice) is the new audio technology that noticeably improves speech reproduction quality on the smartphone and largely eliminates background noise, particularly when in a loud environment (train, street).

Hear the difference

Use these examples to hear the difference between HD Voice and conventional connection quality.

What are the advantages of HD Voice?

  • You can make phone calls even when in a loud environment and can still clearly understand the person you are talking to. The background noise is reduced to a minimum and thus allows for a relaxed conversation.

  • feeling that you are talking face to face with the person at the other end is significantly increased.

  • Delicate issues can now also be discussed over the phone as the audio quality allows for the equally flawless transmission of quietly spoken or whispered words. You can talk quietly – without anyone listening in.

What are the requirements for HD Voice?

  • The persons at both ends of the connection are customers of Swisscom (NATEL® subscription or NATEL® easy) and the entire call is conducted on Swisscom's 3G network.

  • Both persons have a NATEL® that supports HD Voice. You will find a selection of HD Voice enabled mobiles in the Swisscom online shop or in your local Swisscom shop.

  • If the requirements for an HD Voice call are met (this is recognised automatically), then the call is transmitted in HD Voice.

Who can benefit most from HD Voice?

  • Customers who frequently travel on public transport or are otherwise subjected to environmental noise and are reliant on being able to hold serious and confidential conversations nevertheless.

  • Customers who are reliant on being able to hold intimate conversations (no loud talking required).

  • Older customers with hearing loss or those with a hearing impairment.

  • Or customers who simply value crystal clear audio quality.

Is HD Voice chargeable?

  • HD Voice is free of charge.

  • HD Voice is preinstalled and does not need to be activated by the customer.

Excellent voice and connection quality

Connections are established quickly (Ø 6.4 seconds) and reliably (success rate 99,3%) in both urban and rural areas, and the voice quality is "excellent". The latest test carried out by the journal "connect" has clearly highlighted our lead over the competitors.

Top speeds for mobile surfing

When using the mobile Internet services, the quality of Swisscom's broadband technology becomes fully apparent. Websites are not only loaded quickly and reliably, e-mail up and downloads work perfectly in both urban and rural areas. connect's verdict: very good.

Unique level of coverage in Switzerland

The mobile broadband network of Swisscom with EDGE (2.5G) already covers the whole of Switzerland and, thanks to HSPA, can reach more than 93% of the population. The network is supported by more than 1,200 WLAN hotspots, and one third of the base stations have already been connected with fibre optic cable.

The fourth generation of mobile telecommunication is coming

While the current mobile technologies are being continually expanded, the next generation is already being trialled and an expansion is planned for 2012. However, the current generation of mobile technologies still offers a great deal of potential: thanks to HSPA+, transmission rates of up to 42 Mbit/s will be possible from next year.
