Unsent e-mail
Does an error message appear when you try to send e-mail? With the introduction of the new Swisscom spam filter, the settings of the e-mail program need to be adjusted in certain cases.
Requirements
Please check whether the following conditions apply:
- An error message appears only when you try to send e-mail, not when you receive e-mail.
- You are using an e-mail program (e.g. Outlook or Windows Mail), not web-based email (i.e. e-mail in your Internet browser).
- You are using an account from a free e-mail provider (GMX, Google Mail, Hotmail etc.), not bluewin.ch or bluemail.ch from Swisscom.
- You are using a Swisscom DSL subscription for your Internet connection.
If these conditions do not apply and you still cannot send e-mail, please use the Repair e-mail account function.
If these conditions do apply, you have to adjust the settings of your e-mail program.
Background information
Aside from the spam filter for all Bluewin e-mail accounts, Swisscom has started operating an additional spam filter on the DSL network. This filter now also checks e-mail from free e-mail providers such as GMX, Google Mail and Hotmail if the e-mail is sent from a Swisscom connection. This drastically reduces the spam load throughout the entire Swisscom DSL network. As a result of the introduction of the new spam filter, e-mail that is sent with SMTP authentication via port 25 can no longer be sent. In such cases, the port setting in the e-mail program must be changed from port 25 to port 587 (standard port for SMTP authentication).
