PIN and PUK codes
The PIN code (PIN for short) prevents other people from using your mobile phone or accessing your details without your permission. The PUK code is used to unlock a SIM card for which the wrong PIN code has been entered three times. Both codes can be found in the documents for your NATEL® subscription or Easy package. If you can't find your PIN/PUK code, call our free Customer Services hotline on 0800 055 055 or go to your nearest
Swisscom Shop for advice.
PIN-Code
Short for "Personal Identification Number". The SIM card is protected against unauthorized use by a four-digit secret code. The phone cannot be used without the PIN code, except to make emergency calls. Access to the phone is blocked if this PIN code is entered incorrectly three times. The block can only be undone by entering the PUK code.
PUK-Code
Short for "Personal Unblocking Key". The personal unblocking key is an eight to ten-digit secret number which is used to reactivate a blocked SIM card and with which you can define a new PIN code. You SIM card is blocked for good if you enter the PUK code incorrectly ten times. If you don't know your PUK code, you can get it from the Customer Center for business customers.
Recommendations
- Always keep your PIN activated.
- Don't choose a PIN code which is easy to guess (i. e. don't choose 1234, the year you were born, your ZIP code, etc.).
- Don't choose a sequence of numbers for your PIN code which could be interpreted by the mobile phone as emergency numbers (e. g. 117, 118).
- Keep the PIN/PUK code in a safe place separate from your mobile phone.
