You have to register yourself in order to register the iPhone. You will require the latest version of iTunes and an iTunes Store account. Here's how to register your iPhone.
- Download and install the current version of iTunes.
- Connect the iPhone to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac or PC using the cable supplied.

iTunes-Account eröffnen
To open an iTunes Store account, you have to specify a method of payment (for subsequent iTunes purchases). We recommend that you enter your credit card details. If you don't have a credit card, there are two ways of creating an account.
Create an account with an iTunes gift card
iTunes gift cards worth CHF 30, CHF 50 or CHF 100 are available to purchase from the likes of Manor, Coop, Interdiscount or MediaMarkt.
- Open iTunes.
- Click "iTunes Store" in the "Store" list (on the left-hand side of the iTunes window).
- Check whether the button on the top right beside "Account" says "Sign In". If an e-mail address appears instead, click the button and then "Sign Out".
- Click the "Redeem" link in the iTunes Store window in the right-hand column.
Enter the 16-digit code which appears on the back of the card (starting "X") and then click "Redeem".
- Create a new iTunes Store account. You have the option here of entering credit card details. Click the "None" button on the payment screen.
- Once you have successfully redeemed the iTunes card, the amount of credit appears beside the account information in the top right-hand corner.
Creating an account with a free application
You can create an iTunes Store account by clicking a free application on your iPhone or in the App Store on the PC and installing it. You are then prompted to sign in or to open a new account. Follow the instructions. If you are asked for a credit card, a "none" field appears. Click it and open the account.
However, you cannot download any chargeable apps, games, TV shows, music, etc. to your iPhone this way.

Restoring an iPhone with iTunes
When you restore, the latest version of the iPhone software is re-installed. iTunes restores the defaults, thereby deleting any data which is stored on the iPhone, including downloaded TV shows, songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information and any other data. You can upload the deleted data from a backup copy again by following the instructions below (attention: sync first).
How to restore your iPhone (including iPhone data from the backup copy):
- Sync your iPhone as normal first of all.
- After syncing, click "Summary".
- Click "Restore" to reinstall the iPhone software, to restore the defaults and to delete stored data on the iPhone.
- When prompted to do so, select the option to restore your settings, the downloaded TV shows and other information from a backup copy. Then selected the requested backup copy. The backup copies are arranged by device and listed in chronological order. The most recent backup copy for a device appears at the very top of the list.
