Swisscom customers save CO2 emissions equivalent to 2,000 cars

Using Green ICT is worth it! The savings calculated by Swisscom for its customers show that these are not just empty words. In 2011, thanks to the use of specific green ICT services at their companies, 32 Swisscom customers saved

 
 

 

• around 10,000 tonnes of CO2 in total, which equates to the annual emissions of more than 2,000 carsand and

• around 5 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 1,000 households.

All 32 companies received a Green ICT certificate from Swisscom and myclimate showing the individual savings as a thank-you for their contribution to climate protection. The savings for the following green ICT services are calculated:

• Video conferences as an alternative to business trips

• Home Office to reduce commuting

• Tools for optimising logistics

• Outsourcing IT to efficient computer centers


Swisscom works specifically to promote the use of these green ICT services and to develop further, similar services. The aim is to make a considerable contribution to climate protection and to support energy efficiency in Switzerland.
