The University Hospital Centre (CHUV) in Lausanne isn’t just one of the Switzerland’s leading-edge medical centres. Its 8,300 employees are also responsible for providing hospital care for most of western Switzerland, and it treats over 40,000 patients each year.
In emergencies, every second counts. Using the mobile phone network, ambulances and their crews can be located and optimally coordinated. ECGs can also be transmitted directly from the scene of the emergency to the hospital’s casualty department. The CHUV has replaced its personnel location system with more up-to-date technology. This was made possible by expanding the Swisscom mobile network within the hospital buildings.
The transmission power of the antennae and mobile phones in this internal network is limited to just 0.2 watts to ensure no harm comes to either people or medical equipment.
«Locating ambulances helps us to save valuable minutes.»
