1250 sites belonging to Coop, Switzerland’s second-largest retailer, are networked with Swisscom LAN Interconnect Services (LAN-I). Payment glitches due to network failures would have been disastrous at around 900 sales outlets. This is why the company was looking for an efficient solution to minimise the “offline risk”.
With Swisscom DualNet, Coop is in safe hands. DualNet means that the sales outlets are networked redundantly based on LAN-I. When the primary network fails, the system switches to the second network automatically straight away.
Despite two separate networks, costs have not doubled for Coop. DualNet guarantees maximum availability of business-critical applications. While previous network disruptions interfered with operations and customer payment transactions, they are simply no longer noticed at the sales outlets.
«Network failures would damage our image greatly. With DualNet, we have minimised the risks.»
Peter Weisskopf, Head of telecommunications at Coop.
