IT Office in the canton of ThurgauA new network for the cantonal administration

The IT Office (Amt für Informatik, AfI) in the canton of Thurgau is responsible for the reliable networking of more than 6,000 cantonal workplaces. Hospitals, the police, municipalities, schools and cantonal offices require secure and fast data transfers. Swisscom has redesigned the cantonal communications network, TGNet, to meets these increasing demands.

With the relocation of the computer centre to Weinfelden, the separate connection of various networks, and the need for the new network to be future-compatible with VoIP, multicast and eGov capability, the demands with regard to redesigning TGNet were quite substantial. The IT Office chose Swisscom as its partner for this complex project – mainly because the company has the expertise of a prime contractor, enabling the office to obtain everything from planning and evaluation to installation, implementation and maintenance from a single source.

With its upgraded TGNet, the IT Office now benefits from one of the most powerful networks in the country. Its structure, with functionally independent building blocks, guarantees maximum security and fast data flows. On top of this, it makes it possible to achieve further efficiency increases in cantonal administration – for instance implementing e-government or VoIP.

«Swisscom offers truly personalised services.nstleistungen.» Andreas Fritschi, manager of the IT Office in the canton of Thurgau
