The
IT Service for the Canton of Jura is responsible for operating and maintaining the communications platforms
of more than 70 administrative and administration-related sites. Its work is appreciated by over 900
canton employees, who are able to benefit from uninterrupted voice and data traffic. In setting up a
VoIP telephone network, Jura has made its telephone system more straightforward, while simultaneously
reducing the associated costs.
As part of its «OpenJura»
project, the
canton set up a highly powerful data transmission network at all administrative sites. As a result,
the obvious question to ask when it came to replacing the Centrex telephone service was: Why shouldn’t
this network also be used for telephony? The data network was prepared for convergence by means of a
few adjustments, and now transmits phone calls securely and reliably via VoIP.
With
significant, six-digit cost savings, more straightforward procedures for making calls and maintaining
the telephone network, and increased precision in cost planning, the changeover from conventional telephony
to VoIP has really paid off for the Canton of Jura. What’s more, in the form of Swisscom, the IT Service
has found the ideal partner to meet its needs.
