The Luzerner Kantonalbank
(LUKB) has around 1000 employees, making it one of the ten largest banks in Switzerland. It stands out
from the competition through its outstanding service and customer proximity. In order to be available
to customers round the clock, the LUKB relies on a secure data flow. Its new, enterprise-wide data network
(WAN) forms the ideal basis for achieving this.
In
the past, the LUKB recorded around 50 local WAN failures per year. Considering every single failure
to be one too many, the bank’s Management commissioned Swisscom and its subsidiary Comit AG to set up
a new data network. Within just three months, the two solution partners had connected all bank branches
and cash dispensers directly to the computer centre in Bern using redundant fibre-optic cables.
Employees
at the LUKB are highly impressed by the new solution, as not a single part of the WAN has failed since
the system was set up. The high transmission bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s makes it possible to operate certain
applications faster than before, therefore increasing efficiency. Moreover, comprehensive services allow
the LUKB to rest assured that its data will continue to be transferred with a high degree of precision
and reliability in the future.
