Swisscom vernetzt Luzern für die Endrundenauslosung zur UEFA EURO 2008

Swisscom ist National Supporter und Offizieller Telekommunikationsausrüster der UEFA EURO 2008 in der Schweiz. Die Endrundenauslosung ("Final Draw") ist das erste grosse Ereignis, bei dem UEFA Media Technologies Unterstützung von Swisscom erhält: Die Kommunikation zum und vom Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (KKL) läuft über die Netze von Swisscom.

Swisscom will supply the voice and data networks for the final draw at the Lucerne Culture and Congress Center, for organisers, the media and guests. Some key figures:

  • A 100 Mbps/IP connection will provide sufficient bandwidth for organisers and the media.
  • More than 400 IP Internet ports will provide data communications for the media and partners of UEFA.
  • More than 120 connections will be made available for the employees of UEFA EURO 2008TM to access the internal network.
  • 120 walkie talkies will provide communications during the set-up phase and the draw itself.
  • Around 2,500 metres of cable will be laid for the event.
  • Five UEFA hotels will receive additional infrastructure such as Internet connections and a UEFA Corporate IP connection.
  • Around 40 Swisscom employees will be involved in the planning, implementation and operation of the communications infrastructure for the final draw.


Die Dienstleistungen von Swisscom für die UEFA EURO 2008TM

The Final Draw of UEFA EURO 2008TM is managed by UEFA Media Technologies, a subsidiary of UEFA.

As official telecommunications provider in Switzerland for UEFA EURO 2008TM, Swisscom will set up a network connecting the four Swiss venues as well as providing on-site telecommunications services, press centres and workstations for journalists. Swisscom will be represented as one of four national supporters in the official Swiss fan zones and intends to create unique moments for all fans with mobile communications and entertainment.

Swisscom is also responsible for the transmission network for delivery of the TV pictures in Switzerland. Swisscom Broadcast will guarantee the transmission of TV signals from the stadiums in Switzerland to UEFA's International Broadcast Centre, from where they will be sent around the world. The project also involves managing and monitoring the quality of the signal transmission.
