Give & Grow: Corporate Volunteering - getIT

What is "Give & Grow"?

Give & Grow is Swisscom's corporate volunteering programme. With Give & Grow, Swisscom employees can get involved in charitable work in the areas of the environment and society. Swisscom even makes one working day a year available to its employees for this purpose. This also supports important volunteer work in Switzerland.

In addition to offering their help, employees can strengthen their own skills by developing personally and making a contribution to social and environmental sustainability.

Give & Grow offers

There is a wide range of activities on offer: from nature work in the Alps, to coffee and cake afternoons in retirement homes, to computer courses for people with disabilities. In addition to outdoor and on-site activities, there are also various online programmes. Employees can register for an assignment on Swisscom's internal Give & Grow platform and participate in the programme. It is now even possible to implement your own ideas and organise an activity. The employee takes on the role of the Give & Grow coach, who acts as the contact person and coordinates the assignment.

Assignments as an individual or in a team

The assignments are a good opportunity to do something together with the team and strengthen team spirit. It's also a nice change from everyday home office or office life. The Give & Grow assignments are also a great way to get to know colleagues from other areas and do something good in the process.

Experience report "Herzberg"

Nasra Abdirahman carried out a Give & Grow mission with her team on Herzberg in September last year in compliance with Covid-19 safety measures. She describes her experiences as follows:

At 08:30 we were picked up in Benkerjoch, Canton Aargau, and after a brief explanation of the historical background, we walked up the Herzberg, where we were greeted with coffee, bread rolls and regional fruit. We were then introduced to the surrounding area and its animals and later the local farmer explained our tasks. The task was to help him maintain the hedges. We removed fast-growing plants so that smaller plants could also receive light. We were driven to the site by tractor so that we could get started straight away. On site, we split into groups of 2-3 and as soon as we were told what needed to be trimmed with the saw, we got started. After just a few hours, we saw results and more and more people were shouting "Watch out, tree's falling". The morning flew by. At 12.00 noon we were driven back by tractor so that we could have lunch. We had a delicious Z'Mittag with a regional sausage from the farm and salad.

After lunch, we went back to work. The afternoon was a great mix of work and some input from the operations managers. Before we knew it, the assignment was already over. The day was rounded off with a small aperitif with a wonderful view from the Herzberg.
