Talents on the Move: Arun Sittampalam

In our "Talents on the Move" series, we introduce you to former and current Swisscom talents who have benefited from our internal talent programme "SCALE". In a year-long learning journey and beyond, our SCALE employees develop both personally and professionally. Today we report on Arun Sittampalam, who has made the step from Product Owner to Technical Product Manager. Enjoy reading!

In January 2022, you took over the position of Technical Product Manager in the Data, Analytics and AI division, marking a significant step in your development. How did this change come about and what helped you?

My heart beats for product development and AI. While I have been involved with the former in my previous career at Swisscom, I was able to familiarise myself with the latter outside the company. When I saw the job advert for the position of Technical Product Manager at PLATO - Swisscom's Conversational AI platform - I quickly made up my mind: I didn't want to miss out on the unique opportunity to combine both passions. After an intensive application process during which I got to know the other ART roles, Solution Management, POs and Engineering roles, I now consider myself lucky to be able to help shape PLATO's vision and strategy.

What has been the biggest challenge for you so far in your new job and what do you particularly enjoy?

The PLATO colleagues are all enthusiastic about their work - this atmosphere is extremely inspiring and makes the days fly by as if they were hours. The fast-paced and very creative collaboration that is cultivated throughout ART is exactly to my taste, and there are currently many topics in the forge at PLATO. The enormous scaling of the product, the cloud move, issues surrounding the revised data protection law and the ART transformation are just a few of them. Because there is no shortage of work and everyone has their hands full, I was able to get stuck in very quickly. Ramping up so quickly and being able to shape things while I'm constantly learning is both a challenge and a pleasure.

What things at SCALE do you benefit most from in terms of your development?

Even the application process for SCALE is designed in such a way that you have to think very intensively about your values and goals. SCALE convinced me that it would help me to tackle my personal and professional development even more consistently. This proved to be the case. Even the first modules, such as the Development Centre, are designed to hold up a mirror to the scalers. I wouldn't want to do without the close support from Talent Management, the open feedback culture and the helpfulness of the SCALE (alumni) community.
