Yoga and dancing as a balance to everyday office life

In this article, we introduce you to our colleague Nadia Delacombaz. She works as a Marketing & Talent Manager at Next Generation and also offers dance and yoga classes. In the article, you can find out, among other things, how Nadia balances her work at Swisscom with her work as a yoga teacher and dance instructor and what skills she can use in both activities.

Why did you join Swisscom?

I started my career at Credit Suisse. I then worked in an SME but soon realised that I was missing the big company vibe. I wanted to develop myself further, try something new and saw an exciting position at Swisscom, which I applied for. I started in HR Shared Services and thought I would stay for 2-3 years to broaden my professional experience in HR. Now it will soon be 10.

What do you do at Swisscom and what does your internal career look like?

I have been working as a Marketing & Talent Manager in the Next Generation division since March 2021. I originally started in HR Shared Services in 2012, where I was allowed to take over a team after just over 3 years. In July 2018, I then had the opportunity to take on a role as a specialist lead in Onboarding & Personal Moves due to a reorganisation (yes, it also has positive sides). In summer 2020, I moved internally to Next Generation for a 6-month stint and was then able to remain loyal to this department.

What does your general career look like?

I completed the KV with BM, then went on to do further training in HR & Leadership and completed the CAS in Lean Management & Innovation exactly one year ago. For 10 years I ran a small dance school near Murten, which I handed over to a good friend about 2 years ago. Since then, I have attended various courses and training programmes in the fields of sport, dance and fitness in order to pursue my urge to exercise.

What is it like to work for Swisscom and what does it mean to you?

Change is the only constant - that's also true at Swisscom and that's what I like. I get bored quickly and I always need something new. Due to various changes, I was always able to take on new tasks, develop myself further and surpass myself. It's not always easy, but you learn a lot in the process. What's more, I can no longer imagine sitting at the same desk five days a week and working from 8am to 5pm. Swisscom and my superiors give me this flexibility and trust. We have a great company culture, helpful colleagues and lots of opportunities for further development.

How can you reconcile your work at Swisscom and your work as a yoga teacher & dance instructor?

As the dance and yoga classes often take place in the evening or at the weekend, the two activities fit in well with each other. As far as the energy balance is concerned, the classes are a good balance for me to the office routine and long periods of sitting. I love inspiring people to move more and sharing my passions.

For me, working at Swisscom means…

Flexibility, drive, innovation, further development.

Als Yogalehrerin und Tanzinstruktorin zu arbeiten bedeutet für mich…

Movement, balance, energy.

How does Swisscom support your decision to be self-employed on the side?

Swisscom allows me to work part-time (currently 90%) so that I can pursue my work as a dance instructor and yoga teacher.

Are there skills that you can use in both activities (at Swisscom and in dancing/yoga)?

There are a few... As a coach for a dance group, I learnt a lot about leadership and group dynamics in practice. I've been able to use a lot of it again and again in management positions. But the same also happened in the other direction. I was able to incorporate a lot of what I learnt from the leadership training courses into my dance coaching sessions. My yoga practice also helped me to deal with stress. It helps me to keep a cool head even in stressful situations in the office and to take a deep breath.

If you need a break and want to take a deep breath, visit one of my yoga classes :)  www.on-themove.ch(opens in new tab). If active recreation is more your thing, then come with me and UNIK Holidays(opens in new tab) on holiday.
