For a long time, I saw the unconventional routes that I had taken as a disadvantage. Today, I know they help me to bring people and technology together.
In my native Australia, I studied linguistics and played in a band while also working on a farm. The tech world had yet to play any real role in my life. When it came to my Masters, I wanted to go to Europe and turn my skills into a career. While Googling, I came across computer linguistics – and the rest is history.
I was surprised at how creative programming can be. A bit like text, you can write code or write great code. Today, I help teams throughout Swisscom make meaningful use of artificial intelligence. We provide a clear picture of what is already being worked on, and network projects.
My tip for women looking to enter the tech world: get some support, for example from a career coach, and dare to step outside your comfort zone. For me, a Google search became a career.
