We invest more than CHF 1.6 billion every year in the network of the future to ensure that 90 percent of all people in Switzerland enjoy highspeed Internet. When will expansion go ahead in my community?

Swisscom aims to expand the network in all Swiss communities by the end of 2021. As soon as the details are finalised for your community, it will be displayed in the network expansion map and availability checker. If the expansion date is still pending, you can have us notify you as soon as planning is finalised.

The community network next to us has been expanded, but not mine. Why not? 

The date of network expansion in different communities depends on various factors. Where it is located is just one of them. So it may well be that the networks of two neighbouring communities are expanded at completely different times.

The map says I have up to 500 Mbit/s speed, but my availability check gives me only 40 Mbit/s. Which is right? 

The availability check of speed at your address is binding. The details on the map refer to the community's expansion zone. Swisscom expands the network in every community, but not always the entire area. If an address is outside the expansion zone, less speed will be available. That is also why it is phrased “up to” and not “exactly” 500 Mbit/s.

Why can’t Swisscom tell me exactly when the network will be expanded in my community? 

Expansion planning depends on various factors, so it is impossible to fix an exact expansion date. Swisscom fixes the expansion period for specific communities around six months in advance.

Why are we only getting FTTS/B and not FTTH in my community? 

We achieve Internet speeds of up to 100 or 500 Mbit/s with FTTS/B (Fiber to the Street / Fiber to the Building), which easily covers all the needs of an average user. The effort involved in FTTH (Fibre to the Home) expansion is much greater, and it would take far longer to cover the whole of Switzerland. Fibre to the home is used in larger buildings (> 12 apartments and shops) and in new construction projects.

Who pays for network expansion?

Swisscom bears the cost of network expansion. Local authorities can share in the costs if they want expansion zone or technology adjustments. 

Is the network just for Swisscom products or other providers as well?

The network is open to all providers. 

All speeds quoted on this web page are download rates unless indicated otherwise. “Expanded” status means that the majority of expansion works have been completed. It may be that further households will be added at a later date. Internet speeds may vary within a community. This may be due to the different fibre optic technologies or selected expansion zone. The availability check speeds are binding. Swisscom does its utmost to ensure that the information is both correct and up to date. Nonetheless, errors and ambiguities cannot be completely ruled out. We therefore do not guarantee that the information contained on these pages is up to date, correct or complete.
