Changeover to new millennium: all goes well for Swisscom control centre

03 January 2000

"Lothar" toppled cable wire lines

Work to repair the cable wire line problems caused by the storm "Lothar" last week continues: felled trees led to faults on the wire line network throughout Switzerland, with the exception of the Ticino and only slight problems in the Grisons. There are still 100 employees working on these problems. The work should be completed in the next few days.

Temporary transmission interruption in western Switzerland

The partial interruption to transmission at the Haute-Nendaz VHF transmitter yesterday was also unrelated to the millennium. The second and third French-speaking radio channels in the Sion and Haute-Nendaz regions were affected. Broadcasting was temporarily ensured by two alternative transmitters. The partial failure of the transmitters was repaired at midday today.
