Blue Window: Swisscom and TA-Media become partners

Swisscom and TA-Media are building a strategic partnership through a cross participation. TA-Media is taking over 8% of Blue Window, Swisscom"s Internet Service Provider. Blue Window is taking a 15% share in Winner Market AG, TA-Media"s online classifieds service. As well as the participation in Winner Market AG, Blue Window is also taking over shares in Winner Market AG"s two subsidiary companies, PartnerWinner AG (30%) and AuctionWinner AG (35%).

The reciprocal participation is something of an innovation in Switzerland. TA-Media will transform part of its core business - the classifieds - into an extensive electronic marketplace. At the same time Blue Window´s horizontal portal will be extended by TA-Media´s contents, making it more attractive. The partners will also build new, vertical portals. The vertical portals will be aimed at specific interest groups (e.g. for music or travel).

"The horizontal portal for private Internet users, supplemented by vertical portals, is one of the corner-stones of Swisscom´s e-business strategy. We intend to develop a similar service for the business-to-business area", said Jens Alder, managing director of the Swisscom group. With its partnership with Blue Window, TA-Media wants to bring its e-commerce activities together and ousource them to Blue Window.

Swisscom/Blue Window and TA-Media have found their ideal partners. TA-Media is the market leader in the classifieds business and has a broad range of print products and electronic media that Blue Window can supply with additional contents.

"We see ourselves as a multimedia contents specialist, dealing in the production, packaging and transport of information, entertainment and commercial offers", said Michel M. Favre, TA-Media Chairman. Blue Window and TA-Media and their products are strong names in their markets and are very well known. They also intend to use this potential for joint marketing activities.

Blue Window, Swisscom´s Internet Service Provider, has been providing a comprehensive Internet service for private, small business and home office clients for over three years. In the fast-growing online market Blue Window positions itself as the intermediary between the consumers´ requirements and the services offered by businesses. With over 440,000 access customers and over 50 million page views per month, and 210,000 free e-mail customers (BlueMail), Blue Window is today the leading Swiss Internet provider. In order to increase the flexibility of the Internet Service Provider, and to create the basis for further partnership, Blue Window plans to go independent from 1 May 2000. The current Swisscom area with approximately 230 employees will be transferred into a limited company. A project organisation will be developed in preparation for the possible flotation of Blue Window in the second half of 2000.

Winner Market AG

The Winner Group, employing about 30 people, plays an important role in TA-Media´s multimedia strategy. It encompasses the subsidiary companies JobWinner, CarWinner, ImmoWinner, AuctionWinner, PartnerWinner and PriceWinner, thus giving it a broad range of online marketplaces. TA-Media´s other online activities are growing just as fast as the Winner Group. Its 15 Web sites are strongly content-driven and, with around 10 million page views per month, feature among the leading online services in Switzerland.
