Credit Suisse, Bluewin and TA-Media launch joint Internet finance portal

24 July 2000

Credit Suisse, Bluewin and TA-Media are joining forces to create a finance portal in the Internet. To this end, the three partners are founding a new company in which each partner will hold a third of the equity capital. The portal will be available from January 2001 and will operate as an autonomous company.

The finance portal will provide up-to-date economic and financial information as well as analysis and advisory tools for all key areas of investment, such as equities and equity derivatives, investment funds, real estate, retirement planning and tax. The portal will also enable users to execute stock exchange transactions online. The platform is neutral and also open to financial services providers from outside Credit Suisse Group. The finance portal´s main income streams will be revenue from webvertising and commissions on stock exchange transactions processed by the various market partners via the financial platform. Another source of income is the sale of editorial content produced in-house. The finance portal will operate as an autonomous and independent company. The company will be based in Zurich.

Markus Gisler, editor in chief of the financial newspaper ´Cash´ for many years, will assume responsibility for the operative management of the finance portal. On completion of a degree in business administration at the School of Economics and Business Administration in Zurich, Markus Gisler began his career as a journalist with the ´Finanz und Wirtschaft´ financial newspaper. Before moving to ´Cash´, he was economics editor at the ´Tages-Anzeiger´ daily newspaper. Markus Gisler first came into contact with electronic media while working with the local radio station in Zurich, Radio Z.

The aim of the joint venture is to create an attractive, client-focused and market-oriented finance portal. Internet users can expect to find comprehensive services at a single site - news, financial information, advisory services, community functions and stock exchange trading. Each of the three partners will be able to contribute their core competencies to the new company, which in turn will ensure the optimum marriage of bancassurance expertise, high traffic and subscriber figures and content prowess. The first phase will focus on the target market of Switzerland. A possible expansion will be looked into at a later date. The electronic finance portal will go live in January 2001.
