31 August 2000

SMS communication is enjoying increasing popularity:

Around 2 million SMS messages are sent every day by NATEL customers - and the number is on the increase. On 1 September 2000, Swisscom Mobile will reduce the charge for sending an SMS from a mobile phone in Switzerland by one third to CHF 0.20 per message which will make this means of communication even more attractive. This move makes Swisscom´s SMS service the most inexpensive in Switzerland.

SMS is enjoying unparalleled success: Volumes have increased three-fold within a year, taking the total of SMS messages transmitted on the mobile network every day to around 2 million. This practical alternative to mobile calls is used by customers to confirm deadlines, to agree meetings, and to exchange news or holiday and birthday greetings from around the world - quickly, easily and inexpensively.

SMS communication is now even more attractive: On 1 September 2000, Swisscom, the clear market leader, will reduce its SMS message tariff to CHF 0.20 per SMS - the least expensive tariff anywhere in Switzerland. As well as being inexpensive, Swisscom ensures secure transmission - even if the recipient has switched off his terminal the SMS message is automatically delivered as soon as the terminal is reactivated.
