Michael Shipton (44), previously head of Business Steering at Network Services & Wholesale, will take over management of the newly created headquarter role of Strategy & Group Steering (SGS) on 1 January 2001, becoming the new Chief Strategy Officer at Swisscom. SGS consists essentially of the Strategy & International division, and will also incorporate the Corporate Technology unit.
In view of the decision to set up a Swisscom holding structure and the repositioning of core business in Switzerland, a strategic holding company called Fix Com (fixed line) will be set up on 1 January 2002. A first step will see the merger on 1 February 2001 of two divisions, Network Services & Wholesale under the management of Reto Held, and Consumer Communications under the management of Adrian Bult. A project under the management of Adrian Bult will focus on setting up the new unit. Operational processes will remain unchanged for 2001. As part of the move to create a holding company structure, the fixed-line units Enterprise Solutions, Information Technology and PBX Services will become operationally independent units. The remaining units, i.e. Network Services & Wholesale and Consumer Communications, will become part of Fix Com when it is set up.
