Accumulation of SMS advertising messages on the Natel network

05 January 2001

Swisscom does not trade in telephone numbers. SMS advertising messages are usually sent randomly. Swisscom has no way of controlling this practice. Investigations have also shown that this particular SMS was sent via a short message centre outside Switzerland.

Advertising 0906-numbers is in principle permitted, provided the relevant contract conditions (e.g. naming the price) are met. Swisscom is closely examining the present case to see whether or not the contractual conditions have been adhered to, and is also contacting the operator in question.

Swisscom´s advice to customers is to ignore and delete SMS messages of this kind. Complaints should be made directly to the operator responsible for sending the messsage. In the case of the 0906 36 99 88 number, this would be: DAC Data Audio Com GmbH, Mr Tschirk, Feuerwerksanstalt 584, A-2700 Vienna, Tel.: +43 2622 43 030 11.

Swisscom regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers.
