Premiere: Locate and make friends using your mobile

17 May 2001

FriendZone is designed to appeal particularly to the youth market and represents an interesting alternative to the much-used SMS messaging system. This service brings the Internet "communities" onto your mobile. -Both your friends´ "moods" and their exact location can be displayed on your mobile. Whether you want to have a quick chat or do some shopping, it´s simple with friendZone. Just invite your best friends via WAP or SMS, and bingo! The meeting is arranged! In addition, friendZone also functions as a source for people seeking new acquaintances. As all friendZone members identify themselves using aliases, chatting with people you don´t know is no longer a problem and anonymity is guaranteed.

You can use this service either via WAP or SMS, and the necessity for all members to obtain prior permission ensures that all required data protection provisions are fulfilled. Data protection is top priority for friendZone. So all members must formally consent to being located before anything takes place. The user always knows who is receiving information about their location at any given time. In addition, the user can always prevent friends from knowing their whereabouts. This option is automatically activated if you do not use friendZone for more than 30 days.

All NATEL® customers may use friendZone at no extra cost from 21 May 2001, irrespective of whether they have a NATEL® easy subscription or a NATEL® subscription. Once you have registered, the service is charged at a flat rate per SMS sent or per use of the WAP service (subscribers pay CHF 0.20 per message (SMS) or CHF 0.20 per minute (WAP)). Some commands incur an additional query charge of CHF 0.20-0.40. As a special introductory offer, we are waiving these extra charges until 1 August 2001.
