Press release

Thanks to Swisscom Mobile HSCSD roaming agreements the Internet may now be accessed from abroad

20 July 2001

HSCSD roaming agreements have been concluded with Germany, Austria and Denmark, inter alia. HSCSD enables mobile data connections to be established at four times the normal speed. This saves significant amounts of time and money, particularly when you are abroad.

In Switzerland, Swisscom Mobile has optimsed its mobile network to further enhance HSCSD performance. This means it is now possible to achieve transmission speeds of up to 43.2 kbps.

With an HSCSD-compatible mobile (for example, Nokia 6210) HSCSD may also be used in conjunction with a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), pocket PC or traditional laptop. Channel bundling is used to speed infrared data links, enabling the user to access data applications at speeds comparable to those achieved with analogue fixed-line connections. Swisscom Mobile customers are thus able to send and receive e-mail, access their corporate Intranet site or Internet pages in no time at all.

HSCSD is available to all customers on the NATEL® network and abroad (as set out in the HSCSD roaming list) at no extra charge and without having to register.

Swisscom Mobile has HSCSD roaming agreements with the following countries:
- Belgium (KPN Orange Belgium)
- Germany (E - Plus)
- Denmark (Sonofon)
- Hong Kong (CSL Limited)
- Ireland (Eircell)
- Liechtenstein (Telecom FL)
- Luxembourg (Tango SA)
- Austria (Connect Austria)
- Sweden (Telia Mobile)
- Czech Republic (Eurotel Praha)
- Hungary (Pannon GSM)

Other countries will soon be joining. In countries without an HSCSD roaming agreement data transmission speed is 9.6 kbps.
