Innovations at Internet Expo 02 - Internet access via the telephone

23 January 2002

At Internet Expo from 6-8 February 2002, Swisscom will present three new offerings, WAP on the fixed network and two Internet-enabled telephones. The focus on IT/telecommunications solutions in the business customer segment will also provide some talking points.

The launch of Swisscom Fixnet´s new SMS and WAP-enabled ISDN feature phone, the Top A57ISDN, provides WAP access via the fixed network, i.e. access to WAP Internet sites via a fixed-network telephone. The connection to the service is set up at the touch of a button and the WAP sites you require can be visited from the start page. E-mails can be read and information called up at the same time as making a telephone call and without even having to switch on a PC. A special large display makes data easy to read. Surfing the Internet via Top A57ISDN costs CHF 0.20 per minute at all times of the day.

The new analogue Top J316 phone stands out from other telephones in that the data module supplied provides wireless access to the Internet. The cordless USB modem is simply plugged into the PC. You can start surfing as soon as the PC has been booted up. The modem communicates directly with the analogue base station and transmits data and voice.

Swisscom Enterprise Solutions´ presentation on the Internet will feature various IP-Plus Internet services (IP-Plus® direct access, IP-Plus® light etc.). These services are based on the most extensive Internet infrastructure in Switzerland. Various access and service options provide the ideal basis for tailored Internet solutions.

Enterprise Solutions is now focusing on IT/telecommunications solutions that comprise IT management, professional services, system integration and customer relationship management.

Enterprise Solutions will also display a range of products relating to topical issues such as networking and security. These include RemoteConnex® (secure access to the corporate network for SMEs), OfficeConnex® (national service for company-wide communication connects geographically-dispersed locations), Remote Access Service (secure remote access to the entire corporate network - telework) and security solutions such as SecurePoP® (complete solution for secure Internet access? dedicated firewalls as a central component), RAS encryption or CyberKey® (key to a secure network).

Enterprise Solutions is heavily involved in the "Schools on the Net" project, although the products are provided by the Swisscom Group. Enterprise Solutions will present this project at the exhibition as Swisscom has now concluded agreements with 18 cantons and over 700 schools have registered for free broadband access.

At the Internet Expo Swisscom Mobile will display mobile access to e-mails, agendas and offerings for business and residential customers. It will also present the latest innovations in mobile phone technology.

Swisscom´s newest subsidiary will also take the opportunity to introduce itself at Internet Expo: Swisscom IT Services ? the product of the merger between Swisscom IT and AGI IT Services ? is Switzerland´s leading IT full-service provider. It has nationwide presence in Switzerland at 19 locations and provides assistance for some 25,000 users. The Swisscom IT Services´ presentation at Internet Expo will focus on e-business solutions in the fields of Internet/intranet and SAP. It will concentrate in particular on information and knowledge management. MAM (Media Asset Management) products for the processing, management and company-wide provision of multimedia data and I-NET Intra for the organisation of business-critical information and knowledge will be presented to exhibition visitors by experts.

Bluewin will once again be at the iEX, now into its sixth year. This year´s presentation by Switzerland´s leading provider of Internet access and portal services will centre on ADSL, the fastest connection to the Internet. Various ADSL services and the first broadband content, which is currently being presented to the Internet community in a field test, will also be on display at the futuristic stand (Hall 2, Stand 2.151).

The Zurich-based Swisscom subsidiary Conextrade connects companies to Switzerland´s leading electronic marketplace and builds electronic bridges between trading and business partners which give a new dimension to traditional business-to-business relationships. UBS, the OSIG joint venture based in Eastern Switzerland, the Industrial Sourcing Network ISN and Schindler Aufzüge are all seeking to take advantage of the opportunities e-commerce offers. Thanks to the cutting-edge e-marketplace for purchasing and ordering Conextrade´s key accounts will be able to meet their market requirements more efficiently and less expensively.
