Swisscom innovations at the Engadine Ski Marathon

For the second time, Swisscom will act as lead sponsor of the Engadine Ski Marathon which will be held this year on 10 March. Besides its well-proven SMS service, Swisscom will present another special highlight at this year's event: viewers at home will be able to follow the progress of 85 top participants on the Internet.

Thanks to Swisscom´s innovative Time Video Data System (TVDS), marathon viewers at home as well as spectators attending the event will be able to follow the progress of top marathon skiers on the Internet at 85 top skiers will be fitted with a 12-gram transponder attached to their ankle. Each time they pass one of the four measuring loops along the route and at the finishing line, the times will be transmitted via radio to Datasport. There the data will be edited before being published by Swisscom on the Internet. Viewers visiting will see pictures of the skiers, their times and their current position.

Swisscom will again be offering its popular SMS service at this year´s marathon. At the end of the race the 13,000-odd skiers will be sent an SMS with their final time and ranking in the respective category. Competitors can register and take advantage of the free service by visiting The SMS service will be offered in English, German, French and Italian.
