From 1 to 31 May 2002 all data connections set up via GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) on Swisscom Mobile's NATEL® network are free of charge. In order to take advantage of free connections you need a Swisscom Mobile subscription and a GPRS-enabled mobile phone.
For mobile users wishing to try out GPRS and get to know the mobile services of Swisscom Mobile the May offer is a great opportunity. They can surf as much as you like without having to pay charges. This applies to all GPRS connections set up via the NATEL network to the Internet or WAP pages. Transmission and receipt of e-mails via mobile phone are also free of charge as are other "gomobile" (the mobile portal of Swisscom Mobile) services which usually incur a charge. In May, use of the electronic telephone directory and looking up friends via "friendZone" are also free of charge if accessed via GPRS.
Since the commercial launch of GPRS technology over 80,000 customers have benefited from the opportunity to transmit data. GPRS is highly rated because of its stability and speed. Swisscom Mobile's free offer in May aims to give users previously unfamiliar with the service a taste of GPRS.
