Closure of directory enquiry service centers: support measures for staff affected

The management of Swisscom Fixnet confirms its decision to close five national call centers as announced on 17 May 2002. However, to take into consideration the special circumstances of the personnel concerned who are mainly female, often employed on a part-time basis and have to work irregular hours, the closure date has been pushed back to 31 August 2003 at the latest. The closure was originally planned for the end of 2002. Furthermore, the management of Swisscom Fixnet will offer the following support measures:
A lump-sum payment and compensation for increased travel time for persons who accept a transfer to another directory enquiry service center of their choice;
Support in the search for a new job and financial compensation in the event of a difference in salary;
Professional retraining if transfer to another call center has serious consequences on the employee?s personal or family situation, and for employees who meet specifically defined criteria.
The international directory enquiry service in Geneva will close as planned at the end of 2003. Its employees will benefit in full from the social plan currently in force.
