Partnership between Sony and Swisscom - New in Swisscom shops: products for the networked electronic world
19 November 2002
Effective immediately, Swisscom shops will be selling a range of network-enabled Sony products which provide access to the networked world by means of Internet or Bluetooth via GSM (mobile network).
Technological developments in telecommunications which permit fast connections and facilitate the transmission of large data volumes, coupled with ongoing enhancements in the performance and network capabilities of modern electronic equipment, are opening up new horizons for residential and business users. Once completely separate fields, entertainment electronics, telecommunications and IT have now converged to make life easier in many different ways.
In future Swisscom Fixnet Ltd, a leading provider of telecommunications services, and Sony Overseas SA, a market leader in Swiss entertainment electronics, will closely cooperate to bring the concrete benefits of integrated offerings to users at the 77 Swisscom Shops.
Consumers will be able to see for themselves how easily and reliably the technologies can be geared to each other and familiarise themselves with the possibilities of the networked world: managing music files, accessing the Internet without a PC, or sending digital snapshots to friends and relatives when on holiday.
Initially the shops will offer a range of network-enabled Sony products for the Christmas 2002 retail business. These include digital cameras, MP3 players, videocams and minidisc players. In future the aim of this long-term partnership is to develop targeted solutions based on the optimal combination and integration of hardware and software.
