SwissFone Inc. to take over Swisscom?s wholesale business in Washington
01 November 2002
Swisscom Fixnet announced the decision to centralise distribution of its international wholesale products in Switzerland on 27 June 2002. Following this move, Swisscom has now implemented a management buyout for its sales office in Washington which has been operating under the name Swisscom North America. All 29 employees of Swisscom North America will be taken over by SwissFone Inc. The new company will commence operations on 1 November 2002. It was mutually agreed between the parties not to disclose details of the deal.
The decision by Swisscom Fixnet to serve its international wholesale customers in future directly from Switzerland will not have any bearing on its transatlantic cabling activities. Swisscom Fixnet will also retain and continue to operate its international broadband data network EOSNET, which connects the European cities of Zurich, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Brussels, Amsterdam and Milan.
