Now available on gomobile: Java games and tailor-made SMS subscriptions

20 February 2003

The new Java games facility turns mobile phones into a games console. In an initial phase Swisscom Mobile is offering animated games (Java based) for the following mobile phone types: Nokia 3410, 6610, 7210 and 7650. NATEL® customers can download and store Java games on their mobile phone for a once-only charge per download. Once the games are stored on their mobile, customers can play them as often as they wish at no additional cost. The games can be downloaded from gomobile, the Swisscom Mobile portal, under "Mobile Fun". Customers can also click on the relevant game on the Internet to have the WAP link sent by SMS.

The cost of each download ranges from CHF 5 to CHF 8 depending on the game, plus the standard WAP connection charges for downloading time.

Two highlights of the current game collection are "Siberian Strike" and "Prince of Persia": spectacular dog-fights over Siberia and an adventure in a palace full of traps and challenging riddles. The range of Java games is continually being expanded. Swisscom Mobile is currently collaborating with game suppliers Gameloft (F), Elkware (D) and Bluespheregames (UK).

SMS Services plus: new in Switzerland

Swisscom Mobile customers can now choose to have SMS services sent to their mobile as part of a "tailor-made" subscription. The first four to be offered are news (national, international and business) and a daily horoscope, with more to follow. Customers can set their preferences as follows:

Receipt of SMS information messages daily, on weekdays only or only at weekends.

Continual updates or receipt of messages at a fixed time on selected days.
Up to three "quiet times" per day (periods during which they do not wish to receive messages).

Subscriptions can be amended or cancelled at any time over the Internet. Basic functions such as activate/deactivate subscription can also be performed via SMS.

Charges for SMS Services plus are CHF 0.30 per incoming news SMS and CHF 0.70 per incoming horoscope SMS.

Java games and SMS Services plus are available to registered gomobile users who are Swisscom Mobile customers. For more information on prices and downloading, go to "Mobile Fun" at
