To enhance the end user's wireless experience and enable interoperability, Swisscom and Intel® have conducted a Wireless Verification Program which includes the engineering and testing of the Intel® Centrino' mobile technology using various WLAN access points, software combinations and hotspot locations on the Swisscom Mobile and Eurospot networks.
"The compatibility of Swisscom PWLAN networks with Intel's Centrino? is a major boost for Swisscom customers", says Carsten Schloter, CEO of Swisscom Mobile. While wireless functionality will soon be an integrated feature of portable devices such as notebooks and PDAs, the new Intel® Centrino' will not only result in improved user-friendliness but also extended battery life and thinner and lighter form factors. Frédéric Gastaldo, CEO of Swisscom Eurospot, adds: "The Intel® Centrino' mobile technology represents an important step toward making the WiFi service more affordable and accessible for consumers through a range of integrated devices." Intel® Centrino' mobile technology is being presented at CeBIT 2003 in Hannover.
In addition, Swisscom and Intel® are working together to promote awareness of Swisscom's PWLAN services (both Swisscom Mobile and Swisscom Eurospot) which enable notebook and PDA users to connect easily and quickly to the Internet and corporate networks at wireless Internet zones (hotspots). The co-marketing agreement between Swisscom and Intel® includes the labelling of hotspot locations. This is to assist Swisscom Public Wireless LAN customers in identifying locations that have been tested for compatibility with their notebooks or PDAs using Intel® Centrino' mobile technology.
