Swisscom Ltd and VSEI to share synergies in the field of training

10 April 2003

The VSEI is set to extend its partnership with Swisscom Fixnet Ltd and Swisscom Systems Ltd. The companies signed a cooperation agreement in Olten on 10 April governing the field of staff training and development in electrical installation companies in Switzerland. This will enable the current 26 VSEI training centres to be optimised and more effectively used, which will provide a further boost to apprenticeship training nationwide. As the eighth largest employer in the country, Swisscom currently offers around 870 apprenticeships and employs over 60 instructors.

As part of the new cooperation agreement, Swisscom Fixnet Ltd will be supporting the VSEI course centres and training sites by providing the basic technical infrastructure and a modern network.

Swisscom Systems Ltd will be providing specialists with the appropriate know-how. A modern e-learning platform will optimally support computer-based training. The forefront will include product training in the field of telematics. The "flying classroom" will comprise mobile training infrastructures which on the one hand can be transported without major cost and on the other hand can be quickly adapted to new market requirements (see box).

The cooperation agreement with VSEI will run initially until the year 2005.

A mobile training room for 12 course participants comprises:

  • 7 private branch exchanges (PBX) from Swisscom?s portfolio of suppliers
  • 7 laptops for programming the system
  • 1 video beamer
