Swisscom Fixnet simplifies e-payment

27 June 2003

Swisscom Fixnet is rounding off its fixed network billing offering with the option of paying fixed network bills online using yellowbill and without having to type in billing data such as the reference number etc. Swisscom Fixnet is also facilitating payment for customers who pay their bills using the Internet banking tool of banks. These customers will receive their paying-in slips by e-mail and can simply transfer the details required for payment online to their e-banking system.

yellowbill replaces bills sent by post

yellowbill from PostFinance allows printed bills and paying-in slips to be replaced by electronic documents. This means that payment transactions can be carried out electronically from invoicing to payment so that it is no longer necessary to type in the payment details. Swisscom Fixnet currently sends 3.5 million bills out by post every month.Registration for yellowbill takes place directly in yellownet. The customer receives a unique eBill Account ID which is disclosed to the relevant parties that issue bills. From this point on the bills are no longer sent in paper form but are displayed directly to the end customer in yellownet. If the customer is in agreement with the amount shown, the payment can be activated by just three mouse clicks.

Paying-in slip by e-mail

Customers who pay their bills using the e-banking service of a bank (e.g. Credit Suisse or UBS) also stand to gain. The paying-in slip can be sent to the customer by e-mail so that the billing details can be simply transferred to the e-banking system. Printed bills will then no longer be issued.

Display of bill on the Internet

Only the data required for payment are shown in yellowbill and on the electronic paying-in slip. The bill itself will continue to be displayed on the Swisscom Fixnet Internet site. When registering for electronic payment the customer will receive a username and password for logging onto . For over a year now, Fixnet has been displaying the billing data under this link. 50'000 customers already use this service. The bills for the previous six months are shown with all call details. To provide a better overview, the calls for the current month in progress are also displayed and updated three times a day.
