Swiss premiere: MMS postcards

15 July 2003

Sending MMS postcards is extremely simple: The user takes a photo on his camera mobile phone, adds a greeting of up to 350 characters plus the postal address of the recipient and sends the message to 079 000 88 55. For example: "Hello Hans, I'm having a great time. Best wishes Maria#Hans Muster Musterstrasse 22 1234 Anytown". The MMS is delivered to recipients in Switzerland and Europe in postcard format within two days. The cost of this service is CHF 3 plus the MMS charge of CHF 0.50 or CHF 0.90 depending on the size of the MMS (plus GPRS roaming charges for use abroad where applicable).

Swisscom Mobile is operating the MMS postcard service together with service partner MINICK (Switzerland) AG, which prints out in postcard format the pictures received and adds the greeting and recipient address on the reverse. The postcard is then delivered by post to any address worldwide.

"Thanks to MMS postcard, everyone can enjoy the MMS experience, since people who don't have a mobile phone can now also receive an MMS - by post. And the sender of the MMS postcard doesn't need to worry about whether the recipient has an MMS-enabled device. I personally find that the option of sending personalised postcards by MMS offers genuine added value," says Christian Petit, Head of Product Marketing and member of the Swisscom Mobile Executive Board. At present over 150'000 NATEL® customers use the MMS services of the leading Swiss mobile provider.
