Swisscom IT Services awarded outsourcing contract from CSS Versicherung

26 January 2004

CSS Versicherung and Swisscom IT Services have signed a mainframe outsourcing contract. The contract will run for five years and covers hosting and storage services for CSS, i.e. operation of the mainframe and storage services with data carrier concept. Commissioning will take place in early 2004.

With around 1.2 million policyholders, CSS is one of the leading health insurance providers in Switzerland. Under intense pressure to further increase its competitiveness, the company is pursuing an active cost management policy and intends to exploit the savings potential offered by IT.

CSS currently operates a back-office solution based on an IBM mainframe, the operation of which is to be outsourced to Swisscom IT Services. This outsourcing will enable the IT department at CSS to in future concentrate fully on its strategic UNIX line. From early 2004, Swisscom IT Services will provide all mainframe hosting and storage services for CSS, comprising operation of the mainframe and storage services with data carrier concept. In addition, the optical data archive will be maintained at Swisscom IT Services' computing centre at Ostermundigen near Bern.

This success marks an important step for Swisscom IT Services in positioning itself in the health sector IT business.
