Press release

Swisscom focuses market positioning on business customers

16 June 2004

The two group companies Swisscom Enterprise Solutions Ltd and Swisscom Systems Ltd are to merge on 1 January 2005. The new company will generate annual revenues of around CHF 1.4 billion and employ around 2,000 people. René Fischer, the current CEO of Swisscom Systems Ltd, will be CEO.

Swisscom is to offer its business customers one-stop shopping for the entire spectrum of products and services in the areas of data and voice communication. The group companies Swisscom Systems and Swisscom Enterprise Solutions will merge in response to the increasing convergence of voice and data communication services. Swisscom's aim is to bundle its forces, simplify procedures and improve response times. In addition, customers will have one clear point of contact. The new company's core business will continue to be traditional and IP-based voice and data communication systems, the management of communication infrastructures, and the planning, construction and operation of comprehensive communication solutions, primarily for the 4,000 largest business customers in Switzerland. With annual revenues of around CHF 1.4 billion and around 2,000 employees, the company will be the market leader in Switzerland.

The impact on the organisation and staff will be minimised by shifting entire organisational units; the employment consequences of the merger will be analysed in detail in the coming weeks. Cost savings are not the primary factor driving the amalgamation.

René Fischer is to head the new company as CEO. The 39-year-old business graduate has led Swisscom Systems Ltd since August 2002. Until such time as the two companies are merged, René Fischer will also take on operational responsibility for Swisscom Enterprise Solutions Ltd from 1 July 2004. The current CEO of Swisscom Enterprise Solutions, Hanspeter Quadri, will take up new responsibilities within the Swisscom Group.

Swisscom IT Services, the third Group company in the business customer sector, will remain an independent unit within the Swisscom Group.
