Press release

Swisscom withdraws Fixnetbox from market

05 July 2004

Swisscom Fixnet is withdrawing Fixnetbox, introduced in August 2003, from the market. With immediate effect, the Combox basic and Combox pro services will once more be available in its place.

Fixnetbox, a network-integrated answering machine from Swisscom Fixnet with additional e-mail functions, is to be withdrawn from the market at the end of September 2004. While the initial limitations (waiting times for Fixnetbox use during peak traffic hours) have largely been overcome, there is too great a risk that Fixnetbox will not be available to customers in the intended quality.

With immediate effect, the Combox basic and Combox pro services will once more be available in place of Fixnetbox. The Combox basic answering machine is free of charge and offers the additional functions "New message alert by SMS or call". Combox pro is available for a monthly charge of CHF 5 and also provides a faxbox and Internet access.

Over the next few weeks, the approximately 70,000 customers who currently use Fixnetbox will be informed about the switch to Combox. Fixnetbox will remain in operation until the end of September 2004.
