Swisscom IT Services wins government contract

Berne, 28 October 2004

The Swiss government, cantons and local authorities will in future issue tenders and award contracts over the Internet. Swisscom IT Services is to build and operate the online auction platform for public-sector procurement. The contract will run for more than four years and is worth several million Swiss francs.

A few months ago, the Swiss Confederation and cantons launched an online auction system for issuing tenders and awarding public contracts. Swisscom IT Services was awarded the contract together with its partner ventasoft, and was commissioned by the Swiss authorities to build the simap2 e-auction platform and operate it for the next four years. Swisscom IT Services came out top when it came to meeting the required criteria, and produced a convincing concept for implementation and operation.

The Swiss online auction platform will make the auctioning of public contracts more efficient and cost-effective. The platform will be available to the central government, cantons, local authorities and bidders free of charge. The first pilot customers will be able to use the platform in spring 2005 as public contractors and private bidders, and from autumn 2005 the platform will be available to all users.
