Swisscom IT Services is to act as outsourcing partner to SWISS International Air Lines (SWISS) in the area of infrastructure services and SAP base system operation from 1 March 2005. The agreement has been concluded for several years, with the total volume amounting to a sum in the high tens of millions. In particular, the outsourcing includes support for all computer workstations both in Switzerland and abroad.
In line with its systematic concentration on its core business, SWISS is to transfer parts of its IT infrastructure to Swisscom IT Services. The mandate covers the operation of the midrange server landscape and the SAP base system as well as the installation, operation and maintenance of all computer workstations (Electronic Workplace) in Switzerland and at the company's offices in other countries. Swisscom IT Services is also to take over the IT Service Desk (Call Center) for SWISS. Under the terms of the outsourcing agreement, Swisscom IT Services is to take on around 50 SWISS employees.
Swisscom IT Services is aiming to gain a leading market position in the Swiss IT outsourcing business. Outsourcing is expected to be a strong growth segment within the IT market over the next few years, with more and more firms outsourcing their increasingly complex IT solutions to specialist IT providers.
Overall, Swisscom IT Services will guarantee the operation of more than 80,000 computer workstations in 2005 through its various IT outsourcing mandates. In addition to the Swisscom companies and the AGI banks, its customers include companies such as Ascom, Tamedia Group, KPT, CSS, Securitas, Credit Suisse and 11 regional banks (Esprit banks).
