Calling line identification presentation (CLIP) for analogue fixed lines

26 May 2005

Swisscom Fixnet is to launch the calling line identification presentation (CLIP) service for analogue fixed lines as from the beginning of July 2005. In order to see who is calling them, subscribers will require a handset that supports the CLIP function.

CLIP has hitherto only been available for ISDN lines and mobile phones. Following technical improvements to fixed-network exchanges, the service is to be extended to analogue lines (EconomyLINE) as from 1 July. The CLIP service will be provided free of charge.

In order to use the CLIP service on analogue lines, subscribers will require a handset that supports this function. Suitable handsets have been on sale in Swisscom Shops and in the Online Shop for several months.

The new service is being phased in gradually, and is scheduled to be completed throughout Switzerland by the beginning of July. The first six exchanges were already equipped for pilot trials at the beginning of May.

To mark the launch date, Swisscom Fixnet is offering a number of handsets at a special promotional rate. These handsets are also preconfigured to send and receive SMS messages via the fixed network. This service will be launched in August.
