Mobile ticketing is a new distribution channel for purchasing and issuing tickets. It will be launched by Swisscom Solutions, TicTec AG and Xsmart AG in connection with the beach volleyball tournament in Gstaad from 14 to 19 June. Selected customers will be able to use mobile ticketing to reserve their seats.
Customers select an event on an Internet page, purchase their tickets online and pay by credit card. After completing their purchase, they are sent an SMS message with a link from which they can download and save the ticket. At the event, they then present their tickets via mobile phone or in printed form. For the system to work, users need to have a GPRS-enabled mobile phone that can follow a link and save information from the link to the mobile. This can be done with nearly all mobile phones purchased in the last three years. By the end of this year it will be possible to order tickets directly with a mobile phone, without having to purchase them on the Internet first.
"The increasingly widespread use and standardisation of mobile phones calls for ticketing solutions that are innovative and, above all, secure," explains Frank Schwelger, CEO of TicTec AG. "We gave the event organisers in Gstaad a demonstration that convinced them that our solution works." "We want to support our customers with this solution at big events as well, and we will be carrying out extensive trials for this purpose in the coming months," says René Fischer, CEO of Swisscom Solutions Ltd.
Mobile ticketing costs no more than the normal GPRS transfer charge for downloading the ticket after it has been ordered on the Internet. Costs for reservations continue to be payable to the event organiser.
Xsmart AG is in charge of the security aspects and functionality related to mobile ticketing. Last month, a jury of specialists gave the company a ?Best of Swiss Web? award in the Technology/Innovation category, accompanied by a seal of approval.
